Hi and thanks for a great plugin.
I’m just wondering why synonyms only work when set to OR. The usual default search is AND. This is the case with Google and other commercial search services I have worked with. In all cases I have been able to use and activate synonyms while setting the search function to fefault AND.
Is there a reason for synonyms not working with Relavanssi in AND-mode?

The way synonyms work in Relevanssi is that the synonyms are simply added to the search query. If you do that in an OR search, you get more results. If you do that in an AND search, you get less results.

That said, Relevanssi Premium has a method of handling synonyms that works in an AND search.

And sure, Relevanssi, created by one person, doesn’t quite compare to Google, created by thousands of people and millions of dollars, when it comes to advanced search features…

I didn’t mean to be disrespectful and I realise you are developing this on your own. You are doing a great job!
I was just surprised when I noticed that synonyms didn’t work with AND search which I think gives the best results and is the method most people are used to.

I know; it’s a simple question of how search operators work. That restriction has been in place for decades. In OR search, you can just add words, but in AND search, you need to do something else.

Google has enough computing power and intelligence to consider synonyms equal, for Relevanssi it’s more complicated. But like I said, Relevanssi Premium has a pretty good solution for this.
