SYNC POSTS FROM LOCAL TO SERVER
-
First off, I know there should be an easy solution to this issue. After all, there are many people who use WordPress (and other blogging tools) in ‘localhost’ mode to ‘preview’ their posts, and then ‘upload’ to their servers to ‘go live’.
My question is, how?
I’ve searched the topics here in the WP forum and even done a Google search and while I’ve seen many questions that are similar, invoking some answers, I can’t find the REAL question asked or answered anywhere.
For clarity sake (I hope!), I am running an OSX Intel Macintosh with Tiger 10.4.7 (although this shouldn’t have an impact on the solution).
So, here’s the real question:
I have WP configured on my home computer as a ‘localhost’ machine.
I also have WP configured on my server (TextDrive) as a ‘live’ machine.
There are a prodigious number of tutorials online about how to set up a ‘local version of your blog’, but all (that I’ve seen) stop just at the point where an explanation is required as to how to sync your local version with the server version without uploading the entire WP folder all over again – a process that can take anywhere from 2 minutes to 20 minutes depending on router and traffic issues. If you update several times a day… you see my point.
Yes, I could just do all my editing online. But I don’t – much of my blog material is complicated (photos, graphs and some HTML code) and sometimes lengthy text is involved. I much prefer to see my result before it’s published.
There doesn’t appear to be anything in either WP Support or TextDrive Support that addresses this.
So, how does one go about syncing your local blog with the server version…?
I would appreciate it greatly if someone would give my head a shake and point me in the right direction. Surely one exists!
Many thanks in advance.
Randy
