Sync changed image caption with aìlready published pictures

    Hello,

    If I change an image caption, and the image is already published, the caption is not updated in the already published one. I should go on every post where the image is published and reload it. That, of course, may be a big problem if the image has been published in many posts.

    Is it there some way/plugin/whatever to “force” the update/sync of such kind of image properties to the already published too?

    (Looks like that my problem Was already be submitted some time ago:

    There was no answer back then probably because there is no easy solution. Image captions are stored within each post’s content. The caption associated with the image itself is more of a suggestion and is easily changed when inserting an image.

    As things are, it would take some custom code to get all captions updated when the one associated with the image is updated. If all instances of that image all use the “suggestion”, query for all posts with the old caption in content. Loop through the returned posts and replace the old with the new.

    Going forward, perhaps a better way to handle images if you expect to need to periodically update all captions is to save the image and caption as a reusable block and insert this block every time instead of the image itself. Then any edits to the block will automatically be reflected in every instance of the block. But if you already have custom code to update captions it may not be worth the extra effort to set up reusable blocks.

    Thanks for the exhaustive answer. I undestand very well the implications of “back-synchronizing” image captions.

    It could be a breeding ground for a specific plugin…
