• I am using the GeneratePress free version (so far) on a staging site. It is not recognizing any symbols. In stead it displays only a generic place-holder square for all symbols. These symbols are things like down-arrows on a menu indicating a drop-down list or a shopping cart symbol, etc. This happens on all browsers including Incognito. I am coming from Astra theme free and I would like to purchase the PRO version of GPress if I like what I see. I want to be happy with the free version before spending on the Pro version.

    Hi there,

This is unlikely a theme issue.

Can you disable all plugins to test?

    Let me know ??

Hi Leo, I also believe that it is not the theme but the symbols are displayed perfectly with Astra theme. Disabling all the plugins would be a horrendous task because I have so many. Is there a simpler way? Fortunately, I can hack with the staging site.

Unfortunately there isn’t a simpler way – I would have suggested it if there is one ??

You would want to test it in a staging environment then.

OK, I will do it (grrrrrrrrr) because I really want to upgrade my website. I will post what happens. The main reason I want GPress Pro is to eliminate the need for a lot of my current plugins. Will that do the trick?

Unfortunately I cannot answer this question as it totally depends on what plugins you are using. I will say that we only add essential options (options that most of our users need) to GP Premium to keep the performance optimized. You can review the options available here: https://generatepress.com/premium/

Yes, of course that makes sense. Mine is an ecommerce store and I want a better, more descriptive and flashy menu, and much better detailed search function. Are you part of GP theme development?

    Leo

    (@leohsiang)

GP’s menu system is quite simple (as it works for most of our users) so I doubt it would have the flashy feature you are looking for.

And yes I’m a technical support person for GeneratePress.

If GP does not have a nice MEGA MENU, then can you recommend a solution. My website feels too “patched” and I would like a viable solution.

    Leo

    (@leohsiang)

You can build a simple mega menu with the CSS provided here (without premium): https://docs.generatepress.com/article/building-simple-mega-menu/

If you need something more flashy and complicated then look for a mega menu specific plugin.

Thank you, I will look for a MEGA MENU plugin. I am looking at JetMenu by Crocoblock.

    No problem ??
