Switching from temp url to new domain in 2 days: reviewing the steps
-
I have a WP test site that’s been developed at a temporary url. I’m going to be switching the nameservers of an existing domain to point to the new location in the next two days, and I just want to make sure I’ve got the steps right. Note that I’m not switching hosts, the WP install is not going anywhere, and none of the DB info is changing – just the actual URL.
This is how I was planning to do it:
1. Make sure any absolute links (graphics, etc.) use the new domain name.
2. Once everything works, change the blog address URI in WordPress under “Options”
3. Wait for the domain to resolve (and cross fingers)
4. Voila! (or not)Have I left anything out? Is there anything else I have to do with WordPress or wp-config to get this to work? I just need some advice before I embark on this because once I change the URI in the Options tab I won’t be able to log into WordPress anymore.
thank you.
