Switching from Blogger – what is domain mapping and do I need to do it?

    I have a blogger blog with a custom domain and I would like to switch to WordPress and take my custom domain with me.

    I have read numerous tutorials and some say I would need to map my domain whereas some say I dont. Can someone please clarify this?

    I already pay 10 dollars a year with GoDaddy, so why would I need to pay an extra 12 dollars a year to WordPress to map the domain? Im confused.
