Switch tabs by clicking on a link without reloading the page

The plugin only provides one way to link to link directly to a tab, but what if it’s on the same page?

yoursite.com/contact/?target=phone-numbers

Ought not something like #?target=phone-numbers allow the viewer to switch tab without re-loading the entire page?

I don’t want to have to reload the page unnecessarily and consume server resources, but rather just switch to the next tab over from a link within the neighbouring tab panel.
