Switch off tag stripping in Visual mode!

    As a relatively experienced web editor I came to WP to build my site recently.

    I liked the idea of a visual web editor until I discovered it brutality strips my tags out with no warning when I switch between HTML and Visual.

    I can see why you have ‘Visual’ for non-HTML editors. But on God’s golly green pasture why does it need to strip out tags when switching mode?

    Every WYSIWYG web editor I’ve used doesn’t do this, so why does Visual mode?

    Visual is useful to use if I need to quickly add a little margin here and there so it has it’s use.

    But please add an option ASAP to switch this awful behaviour off for those of us who like both worlds. ??

    By design, TinyMCE (the third-party WYSIWYG tool used for the visual editor) strips out HTML that it isn’t programmed to understand.

    For now, compose your post in the Visual tab, add your HTML in the HTML tab, and publish without switching tabs.

    The developers are working on their own WYSIWYG editor to resolve this issue.

    Hi James, thanks for answering my query.

    Interesting to note that.

    I assume then that the visual mode is really meant for novices?

    I guess I got upset over its destructive nature and I’ve now switched it off.

    But I will miss the easy adding of small details. I’d been using a visual web editor recently and I found it’s easier to go this easy route when wanting to add some trivial adjustment to a style or tag.

    Glad to hear there is going to be an proper WYSIWYG editor sometime and I’ll look forward to hearing about it in the months to come.

    That’s correct. If you’re confident in your own coding skills, I recommend sticking to the HTML tab.
