Hi, just switched hosting company to 1and1 and now my site does not work.

I uploaded all files via FTP and restored the database via Putty, and followed the codex guide for moving a WordPress site.

the file structure perfectly mirrors the old server config and all directories and sub-directories have 755 permissions.

However, when trying to access any url, apart form robots.txt and sitemap.xml I get this

Error 500 – Internal server error

An internal server error has occured!
    Please try again later.

I can’t even log-in to wordpress. The site is https://www.addictmusic.co.uk

Please help as 1and1 support is slow and ineffective

    Thanks,

    Chris

looks like its file and folder permission problem new might be using someother setting then your last host.

1and1.com doesn’t use PHP5 by default, which causes wordpress to fail with a 500 error for me a lot. This happens because of themes or plugins, not wordpress itself.

To solve this, locate the “.htaccess” file in the directory with your WP files in it, and add a line.

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

You’ll have to add this line to this file for each WP site you run. I’ve been 1and1 for a long time and overall they are OK, but this will come up a lot. Here’s their article about it: https://faq.1and1.com/scripting_languages_supported/php/5.html

Thanks for your help, all sorted now. I had to do a new WP install and then upload my old WP content folder and database.

Then it worked, apart from the plugins. However I have added the line to the .htaccess and all is ok now!
