After just having set up new site, I had updraft configured to back up to my personal dropbox.
Now, I’ve created the webmaster email, created a new dropbox account for that, and tried about 20 times to connect Updraft to it. Nothing doing.
Have deleted the previous dropbox from Updraft settings, have then reselected Dropbox and followed the link to take Updraft to the new Dropbox, then hit the link to return to WordPress.
Annoyingly, being required every time to log in to wordpress again, and once having done that, am always dumped into home page in wordpress admin console, not returned to the updraft settings page with a lovely comforting acknowledgement of new Dropbox connection message.
Dropbox hasn’t connected to Updraft/Updraft hasn’t connected to Dropbox.
Backups are now not going to either the old Dropbox account or the new webmaster one.
Have wiped settings in Advanced tools. That hasn’t helped.

    Hi,

Can you make sure that you are currently logged in on your new Dropbox account?
Also, if you have any caching or security plugins installed please temporarily deactivate it.

    Thanks,

Thanks Bryle. Yes, already logged in on new Dropbox account. No plugins or addons. All cookies permitted. Horrible! Edge :S, for that very reason, instead of the usual firefox that’s bristling with defences ??

    UPdraft verification/authorisation message:
“To complete setup for Dropbox press the button below.
This will take you back to your UpdraftPlus settings on the site https://www.rosesocietyvic.org.au.
You will then be able to send backups to Dropbox.”

It doesn’t take me back to Updraft settings. I’m having to re-login to WordPress every time I hit that link. It’s as if the whole process is prevented by Edge. Could it be? Chrome was even less functional- no new tab could be opened in that, and no idea what addon could have been causing it (or built in privacy/security measure)

    Hi!

It appears that the error is due to the server’s ‘maxQueryString’ request limit.
This is the limit on the length of the arguments passed ass part of the URL (i.e. everything after the ‘?’).

The authentication process returns a very long query string, which the server is rejecting and throwing the 404 error.

Please could you ask your hosts/server admin if it is possible to increase the ‘maxQueryString’ request limit to 3500?

See if that fixes the issue.

    Regards,
    Bryle

Thanks. I’ve called them. Siteground. Shared server; that limit can’t be touched. they Say, however that millions of people use Updraft and that they’re set up to play well with it.

If this maxQueryLimit is really the problem, how about Updraft make the query a bit shorter? Do they really need 3500???

    Hi,

Yes, I’m afraid the authentication process returns a very long query string.

Alternatively, you can use other remote storage such as Google Drive or OneDrive if they are not able to make the change.

    Thanks,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. But I’m confused; setting up the Dropbox worked fine the first time. Why is there a problem changing from one to another?

ALSO, it is not convenient in this case to use either Google or Microsoft storage.

I’ve called the provider again and they have adjusted the maxQueryString limit upwards to 15,000.

But the problem still exists. So the cause must be something else.

I’d really appreciate some help with this. At the moment, the site is not getting backed up, and that is not good.

    Hi,

    Apologies for the late reply.

We released latest version of UpdraftPlus. Please can you update and see if that fixes the Dropbox issue for you?

    Regards,
    Bryle
