.svg images produce error

When trying to rename .svg images, it gives the error “A file with that name already exists in the containing folder!”
I use elementor, and .svg images are allowed due to changing WP settings.
It will give me that error, BUT will change the file name still. It will however delete the title and alt text.
If I refresh the page, add back the title and alt text, and re “update” the info – then all the changes stick. It is however a long process for changing the svg filenames on a bunch of images.
