• We were unfortunate and had a malicious website attack on our WooCommerce website. After that we did a malware scan and removal. Changed the FTP, DB and admin passwords and increased security overall. Now we are in a position where the website is more stable. But we did have a breakdown again, after working on some pages in the backend.

I find it hard to identify the specific cause of the breakdown. But looking in the error log of the time of the breakdown I see this error: AH00124: Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use ‘LimitInternalRecursion’ to increase the limit if necessary.

We also see suspicious looking internal links that we did not see before. Links like this in the end after the domain url: ?srsltid=AfmBOoq………..

Finally we have also identified a database error after looking into the debug log: WordPress database error Unknown column ‘posts.ID’ in ‘on clause’ for query SELECT SUM( order_item_meta.meta_value ) as qty, order_item_meta_2.meta_value as product_id………

The strange thing is that the website seems to be stable, when not working on the site in the backend.

Any tips/advice on what to look for? Any help is much appreciated.

Carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures and start backing up your site.

Thank you for the advice. We did all of the above previous. I guess we have to do a more in depth scan. I am just wondering if the attack changed some settings, that makes the site breakdown.

Site is not listed as infected with malware. Was hoping that specific error notifications like this one, would help to identify the issue: ?AH00124: Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use ‘LimitInternalRecursion’ to increase the limit if necessary.
