suspicious email from wordpress

  • hi,

    I received an email from a sender with this account :wordpress@(mywebsiteURL) telling me that my website admin email was changed, i didn’t change it and upon checking, it hasn’t changed.

    Can anyone explain whats this and how can anyone create an email using someone else’s website name.

    You can inspect email headers, to determine message route,
    however it has been most likely sent from your wordpress instance and originates from your hosting server. In that case its a bad sign and most likely indicates that someone (likely malicious) is trying to take over (hack) your WordPress installation.

    What can we do if we think someone might be trying to hack into our account? I received a message yesterday about a set of failed login attempts from a random IP address.
