Currently the enlarged view in lightbox got a src to the full size image file.
For very large images it would be much better bandwidth- and also quality-wise to use an image with srcset + sizes attributes so the browser can pick the most suited image.

  • Agreed, but not yet supported. A new version with FancyBox3 is in the making. I hope to get responsive versions in there…

An issue with fancyBox3 would be its license though,
it cannot be used on a commercial site for free…

That’s exactly why FancyBox2 was never added to the WordPress plugin.

FancyBox3 is a bit different though so it will be added as an option… Don’t wish to force it upon anybody ?? but rebuilding the old FancyBox1 to the responsive age is not an option. Sorry.

So one can then choose between FancyBox2, free on all sites, and
FancyBox3, only free on non-commercial sites.

The choice will be between FancyBox v1 and v3. Version 2 is not even allowed in the WordPress repository.

    Thanks for the answers.

Do you know where the official FancyBox v1 repository is?
How long will FancyBox v1 supported by this plugin? Indefinitely?

This WordPress plugin is really great, especially its SVG support.

The old v1 has no official repository but it can still be downloaded from https://fancybox.net/ (that one has no SVG support!) … there are several spin-offs that can be found on Github such as https://github.com/andreacampi/fancybox/network with 3 forks and https://github.com/nvidoni/fancybox/network with 2 forks. Not sure if any one of those has added SVG support.

FancyBox v1 in this plugin indefinitely? Cannot promise that but I’ll be keeping v1 in this plugin as long as I can ?? but one day WordPress (and all up-to-date themes etc.) will probably move to an incompatible jQuery version so it might get too hard to keep v1…

By the way, I do not think the v3 license means you have to contribute to use it on a commercial web site. I think it means a contribution when you plan to sell a product (software, app or web site) that contains fancybox… but you might want to ask the developer on https://twitter.com/thefancyapps to be sure.
