I need a search field that will search tags and categories. Your WPES seems like the best bet, but it does not yet support block-based widgets, and WP has gone that route.

I am reluctant to load the “classic widgets” since they look like they will go away in 2022, or only a few months from now.

Any word on when WPES will be updated to support block-based widgets?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi,

Don’t worry about that. I will not keep WPES users without the solution.
The problem is new Block based widgets requires loading of all baackend files on front-end so that REST can work. Currently WPES does not load backend files on front-end.

I want to keep this plugin light weighted as much as I can. I am exploring the solutions and of course there will be an update if WordPress completely removes the support of classic widget plugin.

    Thanks

    Update

Instead of classic widgets plugin you can also install Classic Widgets with Block-based Widgets plugin which does not replace the Block-based Widgets screen instead adds a new link for classic widgets.
