    Also, I tried unsticking the post, and now all my forums are stuck as permanently unread.

    Mhh could you confirm that bug ?
    Did you try with only bbPress Pencil Unread enabled ?
    Because I never had that bug, could it be another plugin ?

    I have a supersticky, and it always shows the Unread Icon.

    My structure is this.

    Forum -> Forum -> Topic
