    Hi,

I love wordpress, I use it all the time for a variety of projects. The people who have put it together and those who contribute are awesome. Good job.

One feature that I like has been the wordpress dashboard which displays a variety of important news you may be interested in. For the most part, the links displayed in the dashboard are reasonably informative. However, I really really do not like the newest set of links that are showing up the the dashboard — ‘Dougal Campbell: links for 2006-03-XX.’

First of all why should I care what Dougal thinks is newsworthy? And lets be frank, who cares that he used to play the trumpet? Please remove superfluous information about Dougals former life as a trumpeter out of my wordpress dashboard.

What happens when you pollute formerly (somewhat) useful information with these useless links is that users like myself will completely ignore the dashboard and its associated links — even the important ones.

If you are going to force users to display links in their wordpress dashboard, at least make the links important.

    Rant finished.

    Cheers!

    I agree.
The first thing I did after the upgrade is to go in there and start deleting.

Moving this to Requests and Feedback.

Does no one else see this danger? Why have something that should be used for important things clouded by garbage that you can find on any other site?

I think this is a bit ridiculous as well.

I don’t care for those links items either, but I think you’re all missing the point here. These are just RSS feeds from all their individual blogs, aggregated in your dashboard. How do you propose that the issue be resolved?

Should they filter any headline that starts with “links”? Think about false positives there… Should they just allow you to add / remove feeds from the Dashboard? That kinda defeats the point of having it there (ie: providing recent WordPress-related news). Does anyone have a brilliant idea for solving the problem?

MellerTime, everyone’s (default) wordpress install publishes not only an RSS feed for all your posts, but also a RSS feed for posts in a certain category. Here is my feed for the category wordpress. This feed doesn’t contain any of the posts I have made about monkeys (which I also like to write about). Similarly, the wordpress posts that show up in our dashboards are only a small subset of the posts made by whoever gets their posts in the dashboard.

The answer is to only put information in the RSS feed that is important. Not superfluous links.

How does someone delete these links? I am seeing that they save to my blog backup sql file.

    Thanks

    Andy
