Super Cache vs. Mobile Theme Plug-ins

  • I’ve seen somebody else’s post stating a somewhat similar problem to the one I’m having, but mine’s a bit different than theirs.

    The latest issue the we’ve run into (that we can’t solve on our own) is this whole thing about plug-in(s) for mobile phones (mobile themes).

    I first tried a plug-in titled “WP Mobile” but it’s ugly with a capital “U”. So I un-installed, deleted it and loaded something called “WP Mobile Detector”. That plug-in appears to put a nice little theme in place when a mobile device is detected.

    From my own research I’ve learned that this plug-in (Super Cache) can have issues with mobile theme plug-ins. Here’s what’s happening to us. Once and a while, when you access my site from a regular PC (when it happens, it doesn’t matter what browser you’re using) the site returns the mobile theme. The real kicker here is that when it does this, it returns the OLD WP Mobile theme that I’ve deleted. (Clearly it left some junk behind)

    As most of you know, Super Cache has an option box for support for mobile themes, which I’ve checked. It also has a box specifically for the OLD plug-in WP Mobile, and I’ve tried checking that too. But it still sometimes (once a day or so) returns the ugly mobile theme to a regular desktop. Do you know how to clear this up? What would you do?

    I think I know this problem.

    WP Super Cache creates a folder named supercache in:

    /wp-content/cache/supercache/

    Inside this folder you can find the folder corresponding to the particular page with this problem, and inside this particular folder you’ll find the cached files. Delete this files. WP Super Cache will create this files again and the problem was solved.

    You also can delete all the files inside supercache folder (or delete all the files inside cache folder) or you can use the corresponding options in the WP Super Cache plugin.

    In my experience WP Super Cache is not consistent about cached files for mobile plugins or mobile devices, and then we need to learn about this issues…
