    Hi all,

    I have a question I’m hoping someone can help me with. After having my blog up for a couple of weeks I’ve determined I need to limit the amount of text that shows up for each post on the home page. So instead of showing all 1000 words of text for post A, I’d like 100 words of Post A to show up on the home page and then if you click the title of the post it opens up the post like normal, with all 1000 words showing.

    I’ve searched around the forums and documentation but I don’t think I’m searching for the correct terms. :\

    For some reason I thought that WordPress did this or had it as an option. But I’m not seeing it anywhere. Is there a plugin that does it? Or maybe all the wonderful plugins I have installed are the reason I can’t find it. LOL

    Thanks for your help!

  • Go to options and writing, there is the option to limit posts.

    I just use the more tag after a few sentances to link to the article in full as I run articles which might well hit 1000 words or more and therefore I’d have a front page which was 500 foot high.

    More tag below

    <!--more-->

    Thanks LiverpoolLad, but that’s not really what I’m looking for. I run a site sort of like digg, but for the Book Industry. And I have people posting stories themselves. If I tell them to use < more > after 5 sentences, only 50% are actually going to do it. That’s why I’m thinking that WordPress needs to do that for me. So that it’s always done and it’s always at the same spot. Basically it should just truncate at x many characters when displaying to the home/front page. Does that make sense? Anyone know if there’s a plugin for this?

    Perhaps this plugin?

    One configureable option is to cut the post after about 120 words.

    I think I’ve found something that might work: https://dev.wp-plugins.org/wiki/PostTeaser
