I have a table I’ve created to contain information about individuals, dates pointed awared, type of score and the score itself. This table is raw, unsorted, unfiltered.

I am in need of a way to present a summary of the data showing the top individuals by score, descending. Honestly only a handful of people will ever look at the raw data (which will be added to at random times). The general public will be viewing the summary.

Please tell me we can accomplish this with Tablepress or its extensions. I’d hate to go back to my spreadsheets to get this done.

I failed to mention this, though it may have no bearing on the answer. When I am ready to upload the bulk of the raw data from the spreadsheet there will be several thousand rows inserted (I believe about 3,500) with a couple hundred unique “individuals” to summarize.

The pivot table function in Excel handles this nicely but I want to get away from the spreadsheet and use the database to track this information as it will be live “real time” as data is entered during the competitions.

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

I’m not really sure how you want your “summary” table to look like, in comparison to the raw table. Could you maybe create an example for that?

However, at this time, I’d actually recommend to not create large tables like that (3,500 rows), as the “Edit” screen will be very slow, if not unusable, with a table of that size. So, maintaining an Excel file for the table might be the better choice, and then importing the table to TablePress again after making changes.

Here is a sample of the summary I’d like to see:

    Name Total Points
    DON OUELLETTE 2282
    JAY STARLEY 2066
    CLAY HOYLE 2003
    RICK MEE 1978
    TIM DECKER 1857
    MIKE WOLDEN 1664

    Hi,

ah, I see. You actually need summing up points for rows of the same person.

Unfortunately, I can’t think of a solution for this directly in TablePress, sorry.

The import way might be the best here, preferably after saving the summary table as a CSV file in Excel. That should preserve the results but at the same time keep your raw Excel table unaffected.

    Regards,
    Tobias
