Suitable hosting in the UK?

  • Hi all,

    I’m looking for a good, reliable and – hopefully – cost effective host to run WordPress so I can get my magazine blog up and running.

    I have been warned away from Fasthosts because they seem to be pretty bad, but does anybody have any other suggestions? Who do you use?

  • Need to correct that one. I have been with Fasthosts for many years. They are great. Really sympathetic and helpful support team.

    No, avoid Fasthosts if you can. The WordPress 404 pages do not work with Fasthosts (you just get random html code) and the technical support isn’t the best. Price is ok and they’re reasonably reliable (although their email servers keep going down), but I will be looking to move elsewhere once my current package is up. What’s worrying me now is how complicated it is to cancel a web hosting package with them and the various ‘horror stories’ I’ve been hearing. Search Google for ‘WordPress’ and ‘Fasthosts’ and then make your own mind up. It doesn’t make reassuring reading….
