Suggestion for the Readme
-
I have been following this thread: Any plans for guest ticket submits with no login
Had some of the same issues discussed in this thread with my initial setup. I FINALLY got my ship righted this morning after having an “Oh $h!t” moment, and wanted to share my thoughts/3 cents/whatever…
I think the issue is in that the install instructions in the readme and the admin on-screen messages in the settings may not provide enough detail or may be written in such a way that things are not fully clear..
Upon following that thread and looking at the admin settings a few times I FINALLY got my setup straight.. but wanted to offer a suggestion on some modifications to the readme instructions. It would have helped me if I knew a few additional things UPFRONT before installing this plugin.. Wanted to share MY version of the installation instructions in case other community members and the authors find it useful.
Prerequisites:
? Make sure that osTicket is installed
? Make sure that your osTicket version is 1.9.x (all subversions should work).
? osTicket can be downloaded from https://osticket.com/download
? For Attachments to work with the Key4ce osTicket Bridge plugin, please download and configure the osTicket plugin: Storage :: Attachments on the Filesystem
? osTicket Storage :: Attachments on the Filesystem plugin can be downloaded here: https://osticket.com/download/go?dl=plugin%2Fstorage-fs.phar
? Our plugin will make use of Department alert & Email settings. Please set them carefully in osTicket settings.
? Create a Contact Ticket Page. This is the page the plugin will modify and AUTOMATICALLY insert the [addoscontact] shortcode which will display a contact form which allows guests to submit tickets
? Create a Thank You Page for all ticket submissionsShortcodes:
[addosticket] Ticket listing and creation of tickets for logged in customers/clients (see “Screenshots” tab)
[addoscontact] Guest ticket submission form with CAPTCHA (a WordPress user login is not required to submit a ticket – see “Screenshots” tab)Install Instructions
1. Install key4ce-osticket-bridge folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
2. Activate the plugin through the “Plugins” menu in WordPress.
3. osTicket Bridge plugin settings are located in Dashboard–> Tickets –> osT-Config (DO NOT name your “Landing Page Name” the same name as the folder you have osTicket installed)
4. osTicket DB configuration settings are located in Dashboard–> Tickets –> Settings
5. Email template settings are located in Dashboard–> Tickets–> Email TemplatesIMPORTANT NOTE:
You CANNOT use the shortcode: [addosticket] and [addoscontact] on more than one page. Please make sure you select the corresponding pages you applied the shortcodes to in the osTicket Bridge plugin settings (located in Dashboard–> Tickets –> osT-Config).A few more observations:
It might make sense to include in the documentation a note about the e-mail templates.. In my testing I discovered that they need to include HTML line or paragraph breaks other wise they end up coming to clients and admins in a big old mess of jumbled text.. It’s not clear looking at the templates that this is required.. One assumes that what you SEE in the template is what you will get..Regarding the instruction about naming the landing page.. I KNOW it’s in the admin page, but YET I a SKILLED IT PRO missed/skipped/overlooked it.. Since I MISSED this, I would venture to say that I will NOT be the ONLY one who may miss/skip/overlook the admin page message.. It NEVER hurts to OVER DOCUMENT things.. It certainly will minimize the number of support threads, and THAT is never a bad thing.. ??
Love this plugin!!!
