Link URL on gallery image

  • Hi,

    I have a problem. I’m making several page with trombinoscope of workers. But the problem (I don’t understand) that is on image of gallery : We can’t make an URL link :

    Only :
    – none
    – link to image
    – page of the file

    So I cant make an anchor to go in the page of description of the workers. I can’t understand why we can’t do what we do normaly on seperate picture : make a simple link of what we want (URL, Anchor, etc..)

    Is it a forget or a technical issue ?

    Ps: I have tried to make the Figcaption of those Gallery under the picture. But They had made to be hover these one. Problem : despite my experience on css I don’t arrive to make the figcaption to be under. Usually I finish to make a scroll inside when I use parameters margin, paddind, height… I don’think it’s a good thing to make figcaption over picture by default. I will have to replace gallery by a table responsive to put a text under those image.

    Ps : I’m trying to work as close as possible of WordPress Core this why I have thoses problems and don’t want to solve them by plugins or hacks.

  • The concept of a gallery is to treat a bunch of images the same, so all links would be uniform and point either to the media file or the attachment page.
    If you want to make individual images different, you are doing individual image blocks, not a gallery.
    But there is work being done on a new gallery block that is image blocks in columns. It hasn’t come out yet, but is getting close.

    The gallery block default styling is awful, with the caption over the image. Not all themes keep that styling, though. There are several styles that you have to override so that the captions are not on top of the images. That’s better than using a table, though.
