• I love the Sugar & Spice theme, and would like to work with the theme fonts and colors. I want my home page to look like the theme page, is it possible to use the same lovely peach font color in my titles as well as the Sugar & Spice Header font? How would I be able to find out what the theme font is and the code for the peach and emerald? Thank you!

You are so very kind, thank you! I found how to make a draft for a new page, but how would I copy the contents of an existing page to a draft page and back to the original page?

Thank you for letting me know about Wordfence, would you have any recommendation as to the settings in Wordfence or is it alright just to leave it set as it comes? Are you using the Wordfence Falcon Engine? I am not sure I understand the significance regarding the cache.

Thank you so very much again!

I don’t seem to be able to find the option of copying an existing page to a draft and then back to the existing page in my theme. I would be glad to be able to make use of it, do I need to use a plugin for that? I saw that there is a “Duplicate Post” plugin, is that what you meant?
    Thank you again!

    Hi, Fleurette:

No, I wasn’t thinking of any automatic type of copying, strictly copying & pasting. That is, open up an existing page in edit mode (preferably in the Text editor), highlight the contents and copy them to your computer’s clipboard (Ctrl-C, or Command-C on a Mac), open a new page, give it a title like Test or Draft, or maybe the same page name as the existing page but with “-Draft” appended to it, then paste the contents into the new page. So nothing high tech, just manual copying & pasting.

You can actually Publish the page if you wish, since you won’t be creating any menu items or links to it, or you can save it in Draft mode and click the Preview link when you want to see how it looks. hen do the same in reverse when your draft looks good enough.

For Wordfence, I think you can use the default settings. I have mine set to run a scan once a day, but I can’t remember if that was a default setting or if I actually had to set that up. I’m thinking that’s a default setting. And hopefully Wordfence is sending you an e-mail when any your plugins need to be updated. You should update them whenever there’s a new version, even if the plugin isn’t active.

    Hello,
thank you so very much. I am using page builder for my pages, and don’t seem to be able to find how to open a page in edit mode (in the Text editor). I found that I can copy each row in text editor, would I have to create the same rows on a draft page and copy the content of each row or would there be a way to copy the entire page content?
I have the option of reverting to editor but if I click on it it says that it will clear all my page builder content, which I don’t want. Is it possible to copy the content of an entire page if you use page builder?

I am so thankful that you are showing me this, and thank you again for the Wordfence. I am always updating my plugins, but am so glad to know of extra protection. I think mine is set for a daily scan by default, too.
I am still so very grateful for what I learned about the custom css manager, it has been such a great help. Thank you again for helping me!

I found the option to copy a page within page builder, thank you for pointing that out, I am so glad to know about that, as it is really helpful.

But I am still having issues with my site and am mot sure if it may have to do with my theme. Lately it has trouble updating, especially when I make changes such as spacing in the text, it updates but the change does not show. I have to log out again and again for it to show.
And sometimes when I just want to make an update after deleting something I get a wordpress failure message asking – are you sure you want to do this? It seems to have to do with the updating, it has been giving me real issues lately. Has that happened to you? Thanks!

I do have an additional question: is it safe to delete the Hello Dolly and Akismet plugin? Or at least the Hello Dolly?
I am not using comments as of yet on my site, but is it advisable to hold not delete the Akismet?

    Thank you so very much!

I’m glad you found the copy function in Page Builder. I’ve never used Page Builder, so I wouldn’t have been able to guide you along those lines.

But I am still having issues with my site and am mot sure if it may have to do with my theme. Lately it has trouble updating, especially when I make changes such as spacing in the text, it updates but the change does not show. I have to log out again and again for it to show.

Are you running a caching plugin, or an SEO plugin? If you have a caching plugin active, then you will need to clear the cache when you make an update for your changes to be visible. Or else deactivate the plugin while you are making updates, then reactivate it.

is it safe to delete the Hello Dolly and Akismet plugin? Or at least the Hello Dolly?

Yes, you can delete both. Hello Dolly is just a “fun” type of plugin that you can safely delete. Akismet is useful to reduce the amount of spam, but I use Disqus on my sites instead of WordPress’ comment system. Disqus does a pretty good job of keeping away spammers, and it’s used on a lot of other sites. There are other plugins that you can use that incorporate a Facebook commenting system, and I’ve used one of those before as well.

Thank you so much again, no, I am not using any caching or SEO plugin as far as I know. I tried to clear the cache of my browser, hoping it may help. It just happened recently, I have noticed it with widgets, too – that sometimes it does not save the changes or show the updates.

I am not using any comments on my site, as I keep it private for the time being, but I am very thankful for your suggestions. I never had these updating issues before, the site has been working so wonderfully, and I am very happy with the theme! I am not sure if I would need to set anything with caching in Wordfence? I have left everything to default as it came. Thank very much again.

I wonder if I may ask you something again: my website shows updates available – I always update all the plugins, even the ones I do not use. But now it has 3 updates for the three themes I apparently also have – should I do theme? It says that any modifications to a theme will be lost. I have only been working with my sugar and spice theme and am unsure what I should do?
These are the themes Twenty Fifteen, Twenty Fourteen, Twenty Sixteen. Should they be updated for security reason and will it affect my theme? I do not have it backed up, and am afraid to loose all I did.
    Thank you very much!

Is there a way to back up the sugar and spice theme – the entire website if you don’t have the technical knowledge? I don’t know about SQL or php admin panel – but my site says it needs to upgrade and back up is recommended. I looked at the wordpress codex – but I don’t know how to access php my admin, I also don’t know how to create a child theme.
Is there another possibility to back up? Thank you ever so much!

You should update any theme that needs an update, even if you are not using it. However, if you are not using a theme, like Twenty Fourteen or Twenty Fifteen, you can go ahead and delete them. You should, however, retain one of the “default” Twenty ___ themes in case something goes wrong with the theme that you are using.

Theme updates only affect the specific theme that you are updating. That is, if you update Twenty Fourteen, it won’t affect any of your other themes. I don’t see a new version of Sugar & Spice, so you shouldn’t have to update it.

I don’t know of a plugin that does theme backups. If you know how to use an FTP client, or your host’s control panel, you can download the theme files to your local computer.

There’s also a plugin called All-in-One WP Migration that I’ve used to copy a site from one host to another, and that plugin will copy over everything, including theme files. What it does is create an archive that you download to your computer, and then when you want to install it on another host, you just select the archive. You can use this plugin to create a backup of your site, so if anything goes wrong, you can restore it from the archive.

Thank you very very much again. I looked at the cpanel of my host, it is a little intimidating if you have never worked with this before, but I was able to find a backup menu there – the only thing is, that it saves it in some gz file. There is much I don’t understand on the cpanel, and I am somewhat afraid to use it yet, but I hope to understand it better someday. I have seen the FTP client, but I wouldn’t know yet how to use it- there is still so much to learn!! But I am so very thankful for your explanations and to know about the plugin you just mentioned, thank so much again! My wordpress needed an update, it said I am using the old version, but everything went fine and seems to be good now.

    Hello again,

you have helped me so much with your valuable advice. May I ask, as you know I would like to keep my site completely private. Is there a way of adding robots meta for no index no follow in the custom CSS for all my pages, including admin, login etc without using a complicated plugin such as the Yoast SEO? I would be so very thankful for your advice! Thank you very kindly!

Hello again, may I add to my post? I am using Wordfence, as you know, and am worried about what I am seeing in Live Traffic. Apart from what seems hundreds of attempts from Russian IPs on my login page there is also an IP from the United Kingdom who visited my gallery etc. Now I did send the link and password to someone in England but what worries me is that in Live traffic at that same time it shows that my Custom CSS was visited, there is actually a link showing to my custom CSS! https://my-site/?action=display_custom_css_code. How can it be that they can view this? This is really troubling, I am so worried about all this. I added some more plugins for security, but don’t seem to be able to block Russia. I found WPS Hide Login, or rename wp login, would you have a recommendation? But what does the link with my custom css show, how could someone who is only a visitor have access to that? Would you have any advice? Thank you again!

Hi, Fleurette. You’ve probably tried going to Settings → Reading and checked the box labeled Discourage search engines from indexing this site, but it produces the following meta tag:

    <meta name='robots' content='noindex,follow' />

But you want nofollow instead of follow. You can’t do it through the Custom CSS because the meta tag won’t work in there. I’ve looked at different plugins that might do it, and the best advice I can give you is to use a plugin called Header and Footer. This plugin allows you to put whatever you want in the head section of your web pages. After you install and activate it, you go to Settings → Header and Footer, and copy this string into the first field (<HEAD> SECTION INJECTION):

    <meta name='robots' content='noindex,nofollow' />

After you save it, go back to Settings → Reading and uncheck Search Engine Visibility so you don’t end up with two robot meta tags.

As far as visibility of your custom CSS goes, there’s nothing you can do to prevent someone who has logged in to your site from viewing your custom CSS. Chances are that if it is someone visiting your site, they are not actually looking at your custom CSS, but their browser has to load it so the page renders correctly. I took a look at your custom CSS and I didn’t see anything that would be of use to anyone (for example, links to images).
