Suddenly, our WordFence (WF) dashboard says 404 Page Not Found error when clicking on “Manage Firewall” from the main WF Dashboard.

    Steps to Replicate:
    1. Admin login
    2. Visit WordFence Dashboard.
    3. Click on “Manage Firewall” from Dashboard.
    4. See error message.

    CUT-AND-PASTE OF ERROR MESSAGE
404 Not Found [title of page]
Not Found [this and next line text on page]
The requested URL was not found on this server.

In the past, this used to go to the page where we could “refresh rules” and other firewall related items. Nothing we did to solve this helped any. Things attempted:
    1. Logout/Log back in.
    2. Clear browser and restart.
    3. Wait some time to see if it clears on its own.
    4. Run a new scan in WordFence
    5. Google some potential solutions and followed their quests, such as look if something shows up in “live traffic” for the reason, it did not. the 404 event was not recorded.
    6. Try a VPN to see if it works. It did not.

There was not anything specific which seemed to cause this. We do manage several sites, they are all having the same problem, suddenly, except for one. The only obvious thing is that one site is not yet updated to the latest WP version–as we needed to do a full back up before updating. I”ll update this if that causes this site to have the same error after updating.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

The updated wordpress version did not cause any issue on the website where it is working. So far no clear-cut explanation yet as to what’s different on the other website(s) where it isn’t working.

Hi @swiss_cheese, thanks for the detailed message about this.

I’ve spoken to some of the wider team about this and we think it’s related to mod_security as some very similar cases have been seen in the past.

If you’re able to temporarily turn it off from your host’s control panel and confirm if that stops the issue, turn it back on and ask your host for assistance changing its settings to avoid false-positives.

    Thanks,
    Peter.

Thank you @wfpeter We did as you suggested and took a look at mod_security to test if it was the problem or not, and worked with our hosting to get it resolved. That did solve the problem. Appreciate your support.
