Suddenly Running Slow

Try disabling all of your plugins. 99.9% of the time, it’s a plugin issue.

I did that.I just noticed this message at the top of my dashboard??

WordPress database error: [Lost connection to MySQL server during query]
SELECT option_value FROM wp_options WHERE option_name = ‘recently_edited’

What is this?

That certainly sounds like a MySQL server issue to me. It sounds like WordPress lost the connection to the MySQL server during a query.

dyingman is your site running slow still? If so contact your host and let them know of the sudden hit on performance. Also get them to check that the mysql server is running correctly as your site is running slow and you’re getting query errors. it might ejust a momentary thing and will go back to normal but even so.

turn on the plugins one by one and see when you get the performance hit.

Thanks guys. It WAS my server. I e-mailed them (godaddy.com) and they fixed it within the day.

Golden rule for solving site slowness (borrowed from windows & dos days):
-> Restart the machine <-

If you do not have the privilege to do so, ask your hosting provider to do it. Solves it 99% of the time.

This is one reason I chose a Virtual Private Server. I can restart my machine anytime I want.
