Sorry to hear you’re having trouble.

I just went to the page you gave in your post. It begins with “design stuff here”, followed by a gallery full of text links. I assume that’s the problem gallery.

Below that is a gallery with lots of PDF thumbnails generated by Google Viewer. This second gallery seems to be working fine.

Since the second gallery (and Google Viewer) are working, I assume there’s nothing wrong with the plugin or the viewer since your PHP upgrade.

I don’t see anything wrong with the [mla_gallery] spec you gave above, but maybe if you compared it carefully with the one that’s still working it will give you a clue. Perhaps something in your mla_markup template?

If you’re still unable to resolve the issue, let me know. Perhaps you can send me the entire source of the page; go to the “Contact Us” page at our web site:

Well now it just got weird. The first piece is not supposed to be pulling images, but the second is. I do NOT see the images in Firefox 20.0.1 but do see it in Explorer. That is the first time I have seen that issue. Ever had any cross browser issues?

I just ran some Firefox tests. The thumbnails show up for me in versions 14.x, 17.x and in 20.0.1 (running under Windows 7).

The page is also working fine in Google Chrome.

Have you looked at the page source code in your browser? Is the code for the individual gallery items something like:

    <a href="https://76.12.196.238/~uwrwa/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/561_Heavy_Use_Area_Protection.pdf" title="561 Heavy Use Area Protection"><img src="https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=https://76.12.196.238/~uwrwa/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/561_Heavy_Use_Area_Protection.pdf&a=bi&pagenumber=1&w=150"></a>

If you can see the reference to docs.google.com in the source, then something is going wrong in your browser – perhaps a security setting?

I see it fine here with my Firefox 16.x on XP. I am running Windows 8 at home (and hate it but the machine came with it!) and wonder if there is some security issue with it. It sounds like the Windows 8 might be the one thing that is off if you see it in FF 20x on Windows 7.

I will have access to a Windows 8 system next week and will try to replicate your issue there. Did you have a chance to view the page HTML source and see if the links to Google Viewer are in there? If they are, the problem may be some version-specific security setting or problem.

I am at work this afternoon and don’t have access to the home machine. I will check tonight and get back to you.

    David,
After doing some more research I am not seeing them on Firefox 16 using XP now. I do see the Google Viewer code in the source. Have you looked any further into what might be suddenly causing this to happen? You can reference the same page as above as the test page.
    Thanks!

Just to be clear, are you seeing some of the thumbnails but not all, or are you seeing no thumbnails at all?

I’ve just had another look at the test page you give above in IE10 and in Firefox. Most of the preview pages show up, but several, such as “flow splitter Philadelphia” and “level spreader Philadelphia”, do not.

The PDF documents these items link to are very large (32 Mb+). It’s quite possible that Google Viewer is simply timing out or refusing to process documents of that size. If that’s the problem, there’s nothing I can do to resolve it. As you observed, the Google Viewer code appears in the page; after that, it’s up to Google…

I see them in some browsers and not at all in others. When I say not at all, I simply see the css border in a very small box where each should be but you are right, I see the Google Viewer stuff. I will play with removing some of the larger files from the group and see if that helps.
    I will keep you posted.

I hope you were able to isolate this issue to the very large PDFs that caused the Google Viewer to time out before returning an image.

I haven’t been able to find anything in MLA that contributes to this issue, so I am going to mark this issue resolved. If you have more information to share, you can re-open this topic and post an update.

Thanks David. I completely cleared the cache in all browsers that were having that issue and it resolved. I will have the client dump the large pdf but I haven’t even seen it happening after I cleared cache and ran Firefox in private browsing, where it worked perfect.
LOVE the plugin. My client has unlimited needs for this!
