Sudden increase in cache size

    Hi!

    I’ve been using Autoptimize for some months and so far the experience has been great, it certainly improved my website’s speed. I use it along with WP Super Cache and it was a really effective combo.

    Yesterday I created a new subdomain that I want to use as a staging site to test new features and design. Ever since I did that, Autoptimize has passed from having a good (green, can’t remember the size) CSS/JS cache to one of more than 1Gb (I tried deleting the cache, but the problem persists) and my web speed has slowed down a lot, so I guess something must be off.

    Could you shine some light on changes I could make to improve the speed and reduce that cache?

    Hye relleenbetts;
    First of all: I read somewhere there was an issue introduced by “wp copy protection” which you seem to be using, could that be happening here as well?

    More generally; disabling “also aggregate inline JS” and “also aggregate inline CSS” should fix most (if not all) cache size issues.

    Hi Frank!

    You found the answer, the issue was at WP Copy Protection, thank you so much! I’ve spent long hours trying to find a solution, so I really appreciate your help. The cache has gone from 1Gb to 3Mb, quite a change!

    Would you generally recommend to keep “also aggregate inline JS” and “also aggregate inline CSS” disabled anyway?

    Also, I thought about deactivating the plugin overall in the staging site, do you think that’s advisable or would it be better to keep it working to see how the site behaves?

    I would at least use staging to test updates on there before applying on production. You could also leave it active on staging but disable “also optimize for logged in editors/ administrators”?

    By the way, even though it’s a bit off-topic, I’ve noticed that on Google Pagespeed Insights there is a reference to Autoptimize on the “Eliminate render-blocking resources” area. I understand it links to the cached CSS, but I’m not sure about how to improve this.

    I’ve noticed that on Google Pagespeed Insights there is a reference to Autoptimize on the “Eliminate render-blocking resources” area. I understand it links to the cached CSS, but I’m not sure about how to improve this.

    Have a look at the “remove render-blocking CSS” option but make sure to either:
    -> add “above the fold CSS” in the field below (see AO FAQ for info on where/ how to generated the critical CSS)
    -> OR add manual rules on the critical css tab
    -> OR create a criticalcss.com account (premium service) to have rules created automatically
