I’m running the Sucuri plugin v1.7.8 on a WP install v4.2.1. The Sucuri dashboard says “The current version of your site was detected as 4.2.1 which is different to the official latest version. The integrity check can not run using this version number update now to be able to run the integrity check.”

4.2.1 is the current version of WP. I tried re-installing WP and am still getting the same error.

Oddly enough, on the Hardening tab it does recognize that my version is current.

  • Tried to install the Sucuri Security Plugin 1.7.8 – using WordPress 4.2.1
The plugin will not install. I tried to install it manually too via FTP. It would not. The following is the error I get when trying to install it inside WordPress Admin.

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the plugin…

    Could not create directory. /home/villagev/public_html/wp-content/plugins/sucuri-scanner/

    Plugin install failed.

When I tried to upload the plugin into the plugin folder – I got the error message:

    Unpacking the package…

Critical file transfer error. Can’t open that file: No such file or directory

@gboyer I was able to fix the issue described in your comment in one of the commits submitted in the development branch which will be merged with the master branch next week, which means that an update will be released soon with the fix.

@katdakota the problem that you describe has nothing to do with the Sucuri plugin, it is clear that the plugins folder of your site has no write permissions, that is why you can not install the plugin from the WordPress admin panel, nor extract the content of the archive using FTP or the file manager available in the hosting panel.

Can you confirm that other plugins can be installed following the same steps without failures? Maybe your hosting provider can help you to resolve that issue because I do not see how I can fix that from the code of the plugin considering that the problem seems to be in the server.

I would be glad to help you @katdakota but I need to have the credentials to access your server to be able to do something useful, and you will probably refuse to give me that information for obvious reasons (it is not safe to share sensitive data in these forums). Marking this ticket as resolved for now, if you have another idea let me know.
