Subtotal is zero

    An interim summary in the shopping cart returns to 0 after the customer reaches the Payment page and returns to continue shopping.
    The products remain in the basket but the payment is always 0.
    Is it just a free version?

    No, this is specific to your site.
    Some other plugin is controlling the cart subtotal through filter woocommerce_cart_subtotal
    Try deactivating other plugins.
