The site I work with uses a subtitle in post editor. Gutenberg simply does not have this feature (or I can’t find it).
Is there any way to create an additional text field for subtitle in Gutenberg? (not a block for main post content)
Will it be added in future updates as a native feature?

  • Not very sure I am following — could you expand a bit more on what the subtitle does?

My understanding is that this is sort of a caption for an image block, but if the subtitle does something else, probably need more information.

I am talking about a subtitle which goes right under the post title, but doesn’t appear in publication contents.

Hi Nick, it looks like the subtitle you’re referring to is this:

    > CONNECTED THE SOUTH OF RUSSIA GAVE TEN NEW TRAVEL ROUTES TO LOCALS

The classic editor didn’t provide that functionality, unless you’re using the Excerpt field. Is there a plugin that you’re using to do that? If so, the plugin will need to add support for the new block editor. The best thing to do would be to contact the plugin author and let them know you’d like to see support for it.

@iandunn, yes, that’s what I meant. There’s no plugin to generate the subtitle. Found the code that inserts a subtitle field in “/themes/examiner/inc/meta-fields.php” instead.
So it looks like a theme feature. Thanks for answer anyway.
