Subscriptions and coupons
-
Hi!
Have an issue: Coupons are not working on subscriptions created on the backend, I can add the coupons, but its value is always 0 and does change total price. I also have to add coupon before product item, otherwise it wont work. (not big deal)
I tried Recurring and standard coupons, % and $. They don’t get applied from the admin on the new subscription page.
The Coupon is added, i see it, but has value $0 and does nothing. (works on frontend)
thanks!

Hi @kattouf
What subscription plugin do you currently have in use? Is the coupon working with non-subscription products? Have you tried applying a coupon at the checkout page for the subscription product?
For better assistance, can you provide screenshots showing the issue on your end? For screenshots, I recommend https://snipboard.io/ for easily sharing screenshots – please follow the instructions on the page, then paste the URL(s) in your reply.
Additionally, please can you share a copy of the following:
- System Status Report: Navigate to WooCommerce → Status. Select Get System Report and then Download for Support.
- Fatal Error log: Share a copy of any fatal error log found under WooCommerce → Status → Logs.
You could copy and paste your reply or share it via Mozilla Community Pastebin and share the link here. This will help us investigate further and provide you with a more accurate solution.
In the meantime, you can run a conflict test to help you identify the cause of the issue. More info: https://woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/
I hope that helps! Let me know once you have done a conflict test!

wait, troubleshooting some more
Hi,
ok, It seems coupons don’t work on Simple Products when added to subscriptions on the backend. They work on Simple Subscription Products. But why? They work on checkout just fine.
One is a Simple product, the other a Simple Subscription product. Using a Recurring Coupon.
https://ibb.co/j8V16cXWe need to keep products as Simple in order to use another plugin Subscribe & Save to sell one time and recurring products on the website.
Seems like a glitch to me

Hi @kattouf

Yes, they should work just fine as they do at checkout. However, you didn’t tell us which subscription plugin you’re using. Have you performed a conflict test yet? If you have, could you share the results with us? If not, I recommend you follow this guide to conduct a conflict test: https://woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/
Additionally, could you share a copy of your site’s System Status Report with us? You’ll find it at the top of the page under WooCommerce > Status > Select Get System Report and then Download for Support. This will download a TXT file containing the SSR’s contents to share with us. Once you have the System Status Report file, you can copy and paste your reply or share it via Mozilla Community Pastebin and share the link here.
I hope that helps! Let me know once you have done a conflict test!
We are using Woo Smart Coupons but even with it disabled we have issues.
Here is the report: https://paste.mozilla.org/knJyRday
I disabled everything except the basics including coupon plugins. We use the Subscribe & Save plugin to sell one time and recurring products, all products are simple products.
On the Frontend:
-Standard coupons works on One time order + Recurring orders (first order) < that’s fine and makes sense.
-Recurring coupons only work on recurring orders not one time orders > Ideally we want both, doesn’t seem big deal to implement. why have have two coupon types.
On backend:
-Standard coupon DOES NOT work on Simple Products when Creating new subscriptions> “Sorry, only recurring coupons can be applied to subscriptions.” not even for first order?
-Recurring coupons don’t work on Simple Products “Sorry, this coupon is not applicable to selected products.” –but its a subscription…
-Recurring coupons works on Simple Subscription productsWhat i need:
To add recurring coupons to a subscription featuring simple products from the admin page. I know the product is Simple but its a subscription and should take a recurring coupon. < can’t get this to work
thanks!

Hi @kattouf
It looks like the Pastebin has expired. Could you kindly reshare the system status reports, but this time with a longer expiration time?
Additionally, please note that WooCommerce itself doesn’t inherently support subscription-based products. This functionality is usually added through third-party plugins. We need to ensure that the subscription plugin you’re using is fully compatible with WooCommerce and supports coupon use.
And regarding the issue with the recurring coupons, it’s important to understand that they are specifically designed to apply to recurring payments of subscription products. If you’re trying to apply them to simple products, even if they are part of a subscription, they might not work as expected.
However, it is unusual that you cannot apply standard coupons to simple products when creating subscriptions. These coupons should be applied at least to the subscription’s initial order.
I understand that you’ve already conducted a conflict test. However, the issue persists even after disabling the Woo Smart Coupons plugin, suggesting that the problem might be related to your subscription plugin.
I recommend contacting the support team of your subscription plugin for further assistance. They might be able to provide more insight into the issue or offer a solution or workaround.
In the meantime, you might need to consider using a different subscription plugin that is known to be fully compatible with WooCommerce and supports the use of coupons on both simple and subscription products.
I hope this information helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
