We’ve been selling subscriptions for about 15 months. Paypal checkout worked, and our other payment gateway Authorize.net worked too. We never had a problem until upgrading to Paypal Payments. We align all subscriptions to renew on Fridays, at 00:00. Since the upgrade to Paypal Payments, none of the subscription renewals happen successfully. All of them show “pending payment”, even the Authorize.net credit card renewals.

The subscriptions related plugins we are using:

    • Enhancer for Subscriptions
    • Toolbox for Subscriptions
    • All Products for Subscriptions

We sell cart subscriptions only, so the products are just simple and variations. Nothing super special going on.

Now when the subscription renewal orders are stuck in payment pending status, we have to retry the payment, and then it works.

    Hi @skunkbad,

    Thanks for the details.
When PayPal Checkout is deactivated, the subscription migration layer in PayPal Payments takes care of processing the renewal payments by emulating the Checkout plugin. So for existing subscriptions, all should work as before with no input required.
I also don’t see how PayPal Payments could impact subscriptions from the Authorize.net gateway. Could you please resubscribe the PayPal Payments webhooks from the Webhooks Status settings page?

If the renewals are not processed for any subscription, are there any error logs or messages in the PayPal Payments plugin log files when the renewal is attempted? The latest update 1.7.0 extended the error messaging in the logs and order notes to provide more relevant information so it should be more clear going forward if anything goes wrong.
If logging was already enabled previously, you could share your log files either here in the forums or better privately with us from here:
    https://paypal.inpsyde.com/docs/request-support/

For new subscriptions though, the integration in PayPal Payments currently relies on the WooCommerce Subscriptions native product types Simple subscription and Variable subscription.
Other product types with subscription plans for example from the “All Products for Subscriptions” plugin may not be recognized correctly in certain setups. This should not impact existing subscriptions though, only new ones.
In any case, we are working on extending the subscription support for other product types or synchronized subscription renewals for the next update(s).

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

I don’t mean to highjack the thread but it looks like we have the exact same problem with renewals not happening (orders stuck on Pending Payments), no order notes in these pending orders. This is using 1.7.0, but we’ve been trying this out every month for the last three months to see if it’s been fixed.

As soon as we switched back to Paypal Checkout, the renewals worked like a charm.

    Hello,

this issue is a known issue and is described here: multiple and pre-existing subscriptions

Since this is an older thread and the documentation should give you the answers you are looking for, I will close it as such. Please open a new thread if further support is required.

    Kind regards,
    Joost
