Hi, I just installed Jetpack and set up a subscription form. I tried it out with two different emails, and each time I clicked the link in the confirmation email (Confirm follow), it took me to a subscribe.wordpress page with this message: Your subscription could not be activated. It may have expired, or the email address you subscribed with is not attached to your WordPress.com account. Below I can see the blogs I’m subscribed to. Why do I see this even when subscribing with my mum’s email? Is a WordPress account necessary for people to subscribe? If yes, please recommend another plugin. I had bots subscribing with Email subscribers, while Mailchimp didn’t work well and was difficult to use.

    Thanks, Nika

    Hi Nika,

A WordPress.com account is not required to subscribe to a site using Jetpack subscriptions.

However, were you perhaps logged into your WordPress.com account when clicking the confirmation link? If so, you would have received this error.

To verify a subscription for a different email address than the one associated with your WordPress.com account, you need to be logged out of your WordPress.com account first. Otherwise, WordPress.com will try to verify the subscription as if it’s for your WordPress.com account, which then leads to an error if the email address for the subscription link, and the email address of the currently logged-in account, don’t match.
