Subscribers do not appear as users

I have enabled a subscription button on my website. It is working on the front end. Subscribers are able to subscribe. They receive an email asking them to confirm. And are informed when new posts are made to the website. But the feature is not working on the back end. I do not find their names under users after they subscribe. I have logged out of wordpress and have cleared the cache on my browser before i return and check again. But still, i don’t see the names of the subscribers in my users tab. Am I looking in the wrong place? Do I need to do something else to enable my webpage to receive their emails? Do you have any suggestions?
