I manage the website for a non-profit and for the second time one of my subscribers got unsubscribed seemingly without their knowledge. Here’s what I found out about the recent unsubscribe:

    1. I think the “Email Status” column in the newsletter stats shows what email was used to unsubscribe. If that is the case, they were unsubscribed using an automatic daily newsletter.

    2. They sent me their copy of the newsletter which says it was sent at 4:10:12 AM.

    3. The unsubscribe email I received was sent at 5:02 am.

    4. The newsletter stats say that they opened the newsletter at 6:23 am.

    5. The subscriber stats show that they were sent 2 daily newsletters on this day (duplicates).

    6. They claim that they did not unsubscribe, both times.

I am basing my confusion on the assumption that the “Email Status” column in the newsletter stats indicates that they used that email to unsubscribe. If that’s the case, how could they have used that email to unsubscribe if they opened the email over an hour after they were unsubscribed?

Do you have any other suggestions to try to figure out why this happened?

    Thanks for listening!

  • Some of these users might have a Spam Protection software on their servers that “opens” every link inside the newsletter. That might be the reason he’s being Unsubscribed without even clicking on the link. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about it.
