subscriber user ignored

hi, when i select a user a subscriber it is ignored when running a plug in such as hide admin bar. I do not want to show users who are subscribers the dashbord or the admin bar. No matter what i do I cannot get rid of it. WordPress appears to be ignoring the fact they are subscribers? I really hpe someone can help s this is frustrating.
