Subscriber login redirects to profile, not homepage

I’ve used Private WP, Members Only, etc. to keep my blog private, but to no avail.

On the login screen, a prompt pops up under the url bar, saying “Back to ‘my blog title'”
And when I log in as subscriber to view the blog, I get routed to the profile page for that user, not the front of the blog.

I’ve tried every configuration I can think of — even ones I knew were wrong and nothing works!

I’ve done this successfully on other sites before, and can’t figure out why it’s not working properly for this one. Please help!
