subscribe2 plugin: can subscriber unsubscribe themselves?
-
I’m assuming that a subscriber cannot unsubscribe themselves fr. my blog using Subscribe2? If not, it’s something I’d really like to see.
I’ve also posted elsewhere about another problem I’m having w. Subscribe2 sending out multiple duplicate e mail notices (as many as five in a single day) of new posts. Anyone else having this problem?

Have you contacted the plugin’s author?
Personally, I use FeedBlitz.com.
I haven’t contacted him directly though I do know he frequents forum discussions of his plugins.
Several have suggested Feedblitz, but I just found that a blogger cannot manually subscribe people unless he/she buys a premium version of Feedblitz. That means that if I use the free version I will have to ask all 30 of my subscribers to resubscribe, which is an inconvenience. I don’t value the service enough to go premium, though I would like to find a more realiable way to handle digest notifications.
Using subscribe2, the page where you have them sign up has the option to unsubscribe. (So on your blog, https://www.richardsilverstein.com/tikun_olam/subscribe2-form/ ) — there are two selections, subscribe or unsubscribe.
I have a line in my sub email that says “If you’d like to unsubscribe, go to [link to my subscribe2 page]”, so that there’s unsub info in every email.
As for the multiple messages – no, I’m not seeing this myself. Are all of your subscribers getting multiple emails? If it’s just you – remember, when it sends mail it’s really sending you a message and then BCCing everyone else, and if you’ve got some subscribers getting HTML and some plain text, it has to send you both of those to get them out. Plus, I think (though I’m not sure of this) there’s a batching function as well, so if you have a LOT of subscribers, it may have to send several rounds (meaning you’d get a lot of emails). I only have about 10 subbers to my blog though, so I don’t know about that part really.
Ah, Fruitfly, as usual terrific info! I didn’t even realize I could include the unsubscribe option in the e mail notice. I’ve added it thanks to yr help. Personally, I think this should be in the e mail template by default.
I’ve lost at least 2 subscribers who’ve been getting the same multiple notices that I have. They’ve written to me complaining about the duplication & I too noticed the duplications on the very day they wrote to complain about them. So I’m sure that all subscribers are getting the multiples.
I doubt this has much to do w. html or plain text settings since on most days I only get 1 notice. But some days I get 2 dup notices or 3 & on some godawful days I get 5!
I don’t have a lot of subscribers (would that I did!): only 28.
Honestly, I have no idea what would be causing the duplications then. I haven’t had that problem myself, so it’s hard for me to even begin to troubleshoot. I would guess it has something to do with the fact that you’re using the digest version (or at least your other post indicated that), and since I don’t use that feature, I can’t really help with that. And Skippy has decided to no longer offer support for his plugins, understandably because he’s been inundated with support requests that he’s not able to solve because of the myriad variables that exist.
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help on that issue.
Yes, given that you need 2 sep. plugins working in tandem to get daily digest to work, that could certainly introduce bugs into the process.
I’m sorry that the author decided to discontinue support for the plugins. Unfortunately, that will diminish the effectiveness of the plugins for folks like me having problems.
Fruitfly: Apparently, the unsubscribe message I added to my notifiaction template didn’t work. I was wondering if you could look over this text & url & tell me if it looks like it should work or whether it may have an error. The problem is that “subscription page” is not hyperlinked in the actual msg.
If you wish to unsubscribe, please visit the <a href="https://www.richardsilverstein.com/tikun_olam/subscribe2-form/">subscription page</a> and highlight the unsubscribe button.
Does the template not allow hyperlinks? Perhaps I need to merely add the URL w/o hyperlinking it?
Yup, you just need to add the link without hyperlinking it. Most (if not all) modern email clients automatically recognized https:// and www and convert them to links anyway. ??
Ah so, thanks again. Personally, I like the cleaner look of a hyperlink. But URLs in a pinch are OK too.
Fruitfly: I’m getting there but something about adding that paragraph about unsubscribing screwed up a few other items in the e mail template based on the e mail notification msg. I just received.
Here’s what the template looks like:

David Moss haggadah illustration (source: Library.yale.edu) I’m a sucker for the Passover seder. There are many reasons. It is one of the most accessible of Jewish rituals. In fact, I find it absolutely the best such ritual to introduce non-Jews to Judaism. The seder is fun (or at least it should […]You may view the latest post at

In other words, “You may view my latest post at” should be followed by the permalink which somehow has migrated upward in the e mail. And my name and e mail are missing at the close of the msg. Could the paragraph I added about unsubscribing have messed this up in this way? If so, can you think of anything I can do to straighten it out?
Of course, it’s possible since I’m getting irregular buggy behavior fr. the plugin that this may straighten itself out in tomorrow’s notication.
