    Hi there,

I’m a bit confused I think I am using the Subscribe2 plugin and not Subscribe2 HTML plugin – assume it would say HTML in the plugin name if it was Subscribe2 HTML?

We have an issue with it not currently excluding sending alerts / emails for posts in categories that are in the excluded categories list. We’re using version 10.30 and WP 5.6.1.

We are using the User Role Editor plugin too – is there still a conflict issue with this? Does Subscribe2 HTML also have a conflict issue with it too?

If upgrading to Subscribe2 HTML might help with this how do I upgrade?

    Many thanks in advance.

It sounds very much like you are using Subscribe2 – the free version with a reduced feature set.

There is a known conflict between Subscribe2 (and it would affect Subscribe2 HTML also) and User Role Editor. This plugin creates a custom usermeta table in the database and therefore bypasses important information registered by Subscribe2.

Ok, thanks for confirming that. Is there an alternative plugin to User Role Editor that you can recommend that does not conflict do you know?

It does seem to be working as I am getting emails – just the exclude categories bit not working.

How would I upgrade to Subscribe2 HTML if I wanted to?

    Many thanks.

Hmm, if it’s working maybe it’s a configuration issue in Subscribe2. If you have excluded categories then those won’t trigger an email in Subscribe2 unless the option Allow registered users to subscribe to excluded categories? is checked, and even then they will only go to Registered Subscribers.

    Subscribe2 HTML is here:

    Hi there,

Allow registered users to subscribe to excluded categories? is NOT checked.

    @misstt

If that’s the case I would not expect email notifications to be generated and sent for any post assigned to a category that is also in the Excluded list – seems it is working as expected. If you want notifications, then remove the exclusion.

the problem is it is sending them though.

The exclusion isn’t working – the emails are sent for posts in the categories that are in the excluded categories list.

    Many thanks

Hmm, that’s strange. That should not be anything to do with the User Role Editor plugin, if the post is in an excluded category and Allow registered users to subscribe to excluded categories? is unchecked then the post email process should bail out before the emails are generated.

What version Subscribe2 are you using and which editor are you using the create content? Also, are you saving the post as draft with the categories selected before the publish is clicked to make the content live?

This is a bit old. I am just discovering the plugin, and found this post with a search. It is a little confusing at first. Especially because of the difference between “public” and “registered” subscribers.

The question I am asking myself right now is: Are the “excluded categories” excluded for PUBLIC subscribers or not ? Because the setting is in the “registered subscribers” tab. Or does that setting *ONLY* NOT select the category for REGISTERED subscribers when subscribing ?

This is maybe what this discussion was about, isn’t it ? (the OP was maybe talking of PUBLIC subscribers, when the answer was about REGISTERED ones)

(Just a note: the compulsory categories seem to be selected for all registered USERS, even if they never subscribed. Is that correct ? Will they receive notifications ? Is that the intended way for the plugin to work ? It would be a little more clear if the text in red was talking of registered USERS rather than SUBSCRIBERS)

    Thanks.

Ok, I ran some tests in the meantime. It seems “excluded categories” do NOT apply to PUBLIC subscribers. They will receive everything.
