I don’t think it’s quite ready for core submission, I’d like to get the color popup working on IE and finish off the font selector as well.

Merging it in to the core would be a significant amount of work to get it right as much of the code in the current plugin is designed to get around the limitations of extending WP through plugins.

Out of curiosity, what do you think it’s missing to make it “great”?

I think the thing to make it really great is to clean up and improve the settings interface. I’m not sure we as users need complete control over which buttons are visible. The fine-grained control seems, to me, to be a just a little too much. Perhaps if it were possible to revert to the “Kitchen Sink” button that TinyMCE already uses or some other method to control the quantity of buttons.

I think the writing interface with your toolbar is already elegant and wonderful, I just think the settings interface is bulky and overwhelming.

    Would something like a:

    Buttons: ( ) WordPress Defaults
              ( ) Just Writing Defaults
              ( ) Advanced

Option make sense where Advanced opened up the complete set of checkboxes?

P.S. I have the color pickers working in IE now as well ??

Version 2.14 bring a quick settings mode to Just Writing.

    Just downloaded. Here’s some feedback.

It might be useful to provide a brief line of descriptive text or something in the admin interface to describe each display style.

Minimal – Just writing, for real.
WordPress Default Maybe remove this one? It would be pointless to have the plugin and still use the default setting.
Just Writing Default – A balance of tools and space. Simple and useful. I noticed that this one doesn’t have an Exit or Preview button, giving no way to get back to the main edit page. Is that just a bug? The other setting have those buttons.
Advanced – Extra text formatting tools for those who like to control font size and colors.
Full – TinyMCE in all its glory. More tools than you might know what to do with.
Custom – Choose your own buttons and features.

This is a much improved admin interface. It is good that the larger sections are collapsible. It makes it all easier to understand at first glance.

The missing Exit/Preview buttons was a bug, I’ve released 2.14.1 to address it.

I’ve also added some descriptive text to the quick settings. I left WP Default as it still centers the toolbar and moves the exit button to the right hand side.

The other reason is that if it is selected it will set the hidden checkboxes in the advanced setting so someone can select one of the quick settings, then select custom and it will contain the last selected quick settings options that they can then change as they please.
