submit stories blog

i’m trying to set my blog up to be a place where visitors can register and be able to post stories on the blog. simple enough, but how can i tweak up the site so it looks more professional? things like: changing which group (subscriber, contributor, etc…) can view while on the dashboard, being able to add their msn and icq accounts not just google and aim, things like that. can anyone help?
