    Hello,

After updating, the Contact Form 7 states that the subject field has a configuration error. But when looking at the error, it states “This field can be empty depending on user input.” It currently has “[your-subject]” as default.

So then I clicked on “How to Resolve Configuration Errors” and it contradicts this by saying “The subject is not allowed to be blank. If you use mail-tags here, ensure that it’s not blank even after the mail-tags are replaced with user inputs.”

    Please advise.

  • If the subject field on the form is not mandatory (required), then the user can leave it empty and so [your-subject] will insert no text and be blank. Try making the subject field required by adding an asterisk in the shortcode in the FORM tab:

    [text* your-subject]

    Thanks!

I think it is these words that are confusing

“This field can be empty depending on user input.”

I think this could be rephrased to say.

“This field can not be left blank, but may become blank if the user does not enter anything in [your-subject]”

Further explanation can be given in the “How to resolve configuration errors”.

I agree with thencamenow that it looks like you can leave this field blank, which in fact is incorrect.

Credit to the developer though for your hard work developing an excellent plugin.
