• Hi

I have a multisite installation and I host several websites.
Say my main address is : mysite.net (the url of the multisite network)

I have no problem creating new websites with this kind of url :
    – mysite.net/events
    – mysite.net/trips

Another easy thing is to point another URL on it like :
    – myothersite.org
    (using domain mapping)

BUT I can’t manage to create a subsite of the other URL :
    – myothersite.org/events
what ever I do or not in the domain mapping I always end up with a 404 page.

    any idea ?

Domain mapping will only work with a main domain or subdomain, not with a subdirectory, which is what you’re trying to do.

So while you won’t be able to map myothersite.org/events to a subsite, you could map events.myothersite.org.

To do that, you would need to create the subdomain “events.myothersite.org” manually in your DNS (or make sure that THAT domain “myothersite.org” ALSO had wildcard domains set up on it).

And just to clarify for others who come along (and it is a common misunderstanding): If you are using subdomain type multisite, you do NOT need to create the subdomain in your hosting when creating new subsites. Multisite will do this for you using the wildcard domain that you set up in your hosting account. I’m describing here mapping a subdomain TO a subdomain of the network.

    Thank you

yes about the events.myothersite.org thing this is not a problem I know, I will probably do that way

do you know if this feature will be possible in the next months ? it does not seem much complicated to me, but there maybe a tech pbm that I don’t see
    cheers

It’s been like that for years, so I assume it will still be possible in the next few months. ??
