agh yeah, your right. I did replace the old stuff and not add-to. I even replaced the htaccess information w/ your advice from above. I have kept it that way since.

It really sounds like it’s not picking up the new .htaccess rules, but it’s fine with the older ones, which is … bewildering.

If it’s fine with the older ones, then it’s not really upgraded or someone’s editing htaccess.dist. ??

Except he said it was broken from the time he moved to WPMU.

I had pretty permalinks working for some time, and it worked before this became wordpress multiuser.

They have asked me to duplicate the problems for them w/ images. I just got done sending out another email. I am wondering is it possible, somehow 2 htacess files got uploaded and I’m editing the wrong one?

It sounds plausible right? Though, I don’t think thats the case, but I’m trying to think outside the box.

Yeah it’s always possible you’re editing the wrong file.

    But…. we can’t see what you’re doing.

How are you uploading the edited file? Are you logged on via SSH and editing directly or…?

    (@mymorningstory)

I know i’m editing it properly; I download it from my ftp server using FileZilla port21 and edit it on my desktop then upload it into the same directory.

Directory being /www/.htacess The www folder is where everything is being stored: wp-content wp-admin wp-includes, Etc…

This information probably doesn’t help much ??

    Disable all your plugins too.

What app are you using to edit it? Notepad? I didn’t know if could save them as .filenames…

I’m probably miles down the wrong road now :/

well they somehow fixed the issue. Host gator will work on something until its fixed, I give them that much. Here is what they did:

    Changed .htaccess:
    #RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L] <-Old
    RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-content/uploads/$1 [L] <-New
Here is the translation of what that says so if you need other changes you can upload .htaccess yourself.

I’m a bit suprised that this is what had to be changed, does anyone have any idea why this was the problem?

Yes, becasue the main site uses the /uploads/ folder and the rest of the blogs use the other folders.

    *sigh*

While it may have “fixed” things, I suspect you will have more issues.

I’ll probably work on the site a lot this weekend to see if I can get anywhere, and if other problems do occur then I will let everyone know my update, as I’m sure someone could use this thread in the future as for some help.

thanks so much for everything ??

Just to add, I don’t think this fixed every problem.. As It fixed the CSS issue and the buddypress avatar issue..

1 issue still lies ahead, and thats now adding images to posts. I can add images to posts quite easily actually, but the problem occurs when I add the image to a slider. Probably partial to the new regulations by wordpress to use these (Thumbnail things) whihc is honestly a pain in the rear.

It seems that I have to upload the file to a specific directory to work, and that directory isn’t functioning properly w/ the new htaccess info. I will open up a new thread and hope that someone can solve this issue.
