Subdomains are not working

  • Hi,

    I just created a clean install of a multisite setup and my subdomains don’t work at all. I followed all of the directions at ottopress.com and I have set up a different multisite install with domain mapping and had no problems. I compared both setups and saw absolutely no difference.

    But when I try to go to subdomains of tastygumbo.com, none of them work as subdomains. I can go to superdupershark.com for example but I can’t go to superdupershark.tastygumbo.com. So the mapping is working perfectly but the subdomains aren’t working at all.

    Does anyone have any ideas about solutions? I am totally and completely stymied by this one.

    Contact your web host about your subdomains not working.

    Subdomains are working on the site. I actually manage my own server and the interesting thing is that I have multiple wordpress multisite sites running on the same server. The subdomains work on one site but they don’t work on a different installation. It definitely isn’t an issue with the DNS tables because they are set up identically for both multisites.

    I can only think that there is some small difference between the 2 sites where one is working and the other is not.

    I went to the domain mapping admin screen and used the IP address instead of the CName and that didn’t affect anything (both multisites point back to the same exact IP address because as I mentioned, they are on the same server).

    Are there any common errors in the way that users set up this plugin that can cause this problem? I’m really stuck at this point.

    Are you asking for help on the installation where subdomains ARE working or the installation where they ARE NOT working?

    It doesn’t matter if you have subdomains working in a different install on the same server. It only matters whether they are working in the current install.

    If they are not working in the install that you are asking about contact your hosting support to troubleshoot why they are not working in that install.
