    Hi all,

I am having the problem where all the subdomain pages are coming up at ‘Server not found’.
I think the problem may be that the nameservers are not pointed at the hosting (they are managed by the domain company), only an A record is setup to point the wesbite. A wildcard subdomain is setup at the Plesk control panel but am I right in thinking that because the webhost isn’t managing the DNS that all the subdomains are not going to work?
Can I setup a wildcard subdomain at the domain company pointing to the webhost and will that work?

No, that’s not what I am asking. I want to know if wildcard subdomains work at a hosting company (pointed by an A record only) if the main DNS is managed by a domain company.

    E.g.

    Domain company (DNS managed here)
    |
    |
    v
A record points https://www.example.com and example.com to hosting

If someone puts in test.example.com I assume that request never makes the hosting company? So in saying that the wildcard subdomain setup at the hosting company won’t do anything.

Your assumption is correct. When you have the DNS with the domain registrar, the subdomains won’t work at the webhost unless you add A records for each subdomain too.

Or, change the DNS to the web host’s DNS, and use the main domain and any subdomains without problems.
