I’m building a subdomain multisite network alongside with buddypress. All of the child sites are using the network enabled Metro theme.

Is there any way for me to prearrange everything so that when a member registers a child site then the subscription widget would already be preconfigured and live without requiring any additional configuration or signup from the end user?

Ideally I would like for everything to be arranged out of the box when they register a new site.

I know it’s a tall order – but if someone has thought of a way to do this or has any relavant ideas, I would much appreciate hearing them.

    Thanks!

    Hey Alexander,

I want to make sure I understand what you’re asking for:

    Are you thinking either:
    1. The widget is fully configured and ready to be dropped into place on a new site. The admin of the site CANNOT modify the widget; it would only work on the one mailing list as part of the original configuration.
    -or-
    2. The widget defaults are set per the super admin for the multisite. Individual site admin can change the settings (the text displayed, form action etc).

Just want to make sure we’re on the same page!

Hi Brandon – thanks for getting back with me.

I’m thinking closer to number 1), but each child site would have its own separate subscription list, and would require no end-user configuration.

So to illustrate the point, here is an example:

Lets say I have the plugin network activated and configured. Then I have user1 register a site called user1.domain.com. I would like for the widget to be preconfigured with all the settings required for this new site to accept email subscriptions. Then – later, when user2 registers user2.domain.com – the website user2.domain.com will also have everything preconfigured, and can start building its own subscription list separate from user1.domain.com.

I hope that clarifies. Let me know if might have any other questions.

That does make sense. The plugin just serves as a wrapper for other mailing list services. Do you have one in mind?

Without testing or checking documentation, I could perhaps seeing something like this doable with Wysija since it runs within your install exclusively. In either case, some tweaking of the plugin would have to happen.

    Hey Alexander,
Would you mind putting up the mods you made to github (or somewhere). Curious to see your approach.

    Thanks!
