• I’ve been banging my head against the wall on this one:

    https://erickson.edu is a multisite install running 3.1.4,
    SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL is false,
    DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE is erickson.edu

A couple of sites need custom domain names mapped. This works great with the Domain Mapping plugin.

A couple of sites need to be subdirectory paths, e.g. erickson.edu/coach-training.

I can get subdirectory paths to work when I map it with the server IP address.

    Any ideas?

  • what’s stored in the db? the domain name or the IP?

I manually changed it to the domain name.

    everywhere?

    Thread Starter Jacob Dubail

    (@jacobdubail)

as many places as I could find it ?? which was quite a few. I’m fairly familiar with the options table, and definitely poked around a few of the other tables, as I’m not as familiar with the multisite db structure.

Are you thinking that I may have missed one?

A few of the sites still point to the IP address (these are the ones with custom domains mapped), which seems to work fine and shouldn’t (right?) interfere with the other sites.

Yeah I’m thinking some may have been missed. do a search on all tables & check.

    (@jacobdubail)

Ok. I’ve changed it everywhere that I can find it (except in 2 site’s tables that are using custom domain names and are working just fine).

So, I should be able to get to one site via this link: https://erickson.edu/test3/
this domain name: onlinecoachtraining.org forwards to it (because it’s not the primary domain in the mapping plugin), so some dns resolution is working. Just something internal is still broken…

Any other ideas as to what I can try?

    Thanks again for you help!

    I’m getting a 404.

Just on some sites and not others?

    Thread Starter Jacob Dubail

    (@jacobdubail)

Exactly! That’s the problem. The subdirectory sites all 404. They show up in the DB, they work with a custom domain mapped to it, but if I try to get to the actual site url, I get a 404… Does that illustrate the issue any better?

Yeah that brings me back to my first post. ??

What’s the permalink structure on the main site?
Is there an htaccess file in the folder *above* the main install? (there should not be)

    Thread Starter Jacob Dubail

    (@jacobdubail)

Permalink structure is: /%category%/%postname%/ with a prepended /blog

no .htaccess that I can find. It’s a Media Temple (dv) server and the site is installed in the root of the httpdocs directory. If there’s an .htaccess file there, I can’t see it.

And you can see the htaccess in your folder, right? It’s a hidden file so turn on visibility, and it was part of the multisite setup.

(I know some of this might sound obvious, sorry, but I’m just going back over every. single. step.)

    Thread Starter Jacob Dubail

    (@jacobdubail)

    Yup. I can see it.

Step at a time is probably a good idea. There’s probably something really simple that I’m overlooking…

Any other ideas for me to try out? I’m stumped and my client is getting antsy.

    Thanks!

    Do ugly permalinks work?

I’ll check right now! Thanks for the response.
