Sub_Cat under x2 Main_Cats – showing 2 active menu bar items

    Hi Mega. We have the same sub-cat item “notebooks and Pads’ in 2 main menubar top level categories, it is a sub menu of Paper and Pads, but we also want it under another Top Level menu bar ‘Office’ as attached. When selected it works good but leaves both Office and Paper & Pads shown as selected. Q. Is it possible for it to select only 1 – the original it actually belongs under Paper & Pads.

    Hi gabjam,

    I am afraid not. As soon as you add the same item to 2 sub menus, both of the parents will be detected as ancestors and therefore highlighted (WordPress itself decides how the ‘active’ classes are applied to menu items). The problem is we wouldn’t know which item to highlight.

    The only way around it would be to add the second item as a custom URL to the sub menu. The URL can’t link directly to the page (WordPress is clever and would still realise it is a page item), so you must set up a redirect URL and add that instead.
